Jesuit priest Gregory Boyle has spent almost 40 years in ministry to former gang members in Los Angeles. In The Whole Language he uses his experiences with them and some of their stories to share what they have taught him about the power of extravagant tenderness. This tenderness, God’s love for us which we are called to share, is presented with the skill of a seasoned storyteller and the gentle humor of someone in love with God and with some of God’s “least in our world.”
Judy Holler will lead the discussion on this profound look at the 10 commandments through the eyes of Social Justice.
The Ten Commandments are among the best-known passages in Scripture, yet many of us learned them simply as a list of rules.
In The Ten Commandments: Laws of the Heart, Sister Joan Chittester invites us to see them in a different light - not as burdens or restrictions, but as God’s gift for living fully and faithfully.
Sister Joan reminds us that the commandments reveal God’s desire for healthy relationships: with God, with one another, and with ourselves. They are not merely laws to obey but values to embrace - guiding us toward compassion, justice, integrity, and love.
May this study be an opportunity for honest conversations, spiritual growth, and a deeper appreciation of God’s enduring wisdom
Together, let us discover that the commandments are not just laws written on stone tablets, but laws written on the heart.
